Family Services

At Pagosa Community Initiative, we believe strong families are the foundation of a thriving community. Our Family Services program walks alongside families as they navigate challenges, build on strengths, and work toward stability and long-term success.

We Provide:

Family Support Services – one-on-one guidance from family advocates to set goals and connect with resources.
Resource Navigation – help accessing food, housing, employment, behavioral health, and educational supports.
Parent Support & Coaching – structured, compassionate support to help caregivers strengthen their family systems.
Emergency & Supplemental Assistance – access to food, household essentials, and other resources when families face urgent needs.

Family Resource Center

The Family Resource Center at Pagosa Community Initiative is a welcoming hub where families can access support, resources, and community connection.

One of our core services is the Food Shelf Program, designed for families who cannot always access the local food bank during its open hours. Our shelves are stocked with shelf-stable foods, snacks, and hygiene items, providing a flexible option for families.

In addition, the Family Resource Center offers:

Monthly Circle of Parents Support Group – a safe, welcoming space where parents can connect, share experiences, and support one another.
Periodic Classes & Workshops – held throughout the year on topics that community members have voiced, such as budgeting, financial literacy, and positive parenting. These one-time events give families practical tools to strengthen stability and relationships.
Resource Navigation & Referrals – personalized support connecting families to community partners, benefits, and additional resources.
Emergency & Basic Needs Assistance – including food, toiletries, and one-time crisis support.
Community Events & Seasonal Drives – such as school supply, holiday toy, and turkey drives that bring neighbors together to support one another.

At PCI, families of all backgrounds are welcomed with dignity and respect. Through our programs, we aim to empower parents and caregivers, strengthen protective factors, and build a thriving Pagosa Springs community where children and families can succeed.

Our Framework

PCI is proud to be funded under the Family Resource Center Association (FRCA). We follow their statewide framework for Strengthening Families, which emphasizes:

Building protective factors that reduce stress and help families thrive.

Supporting families in developing strong relationships, resilience, and connections to community resources.

Using evidence-based practices and tools like the Comprehensive Family Support Assessment (CFSA) to ensure families set clear goals, track progress, and celebrate growth.

Through FRCA’s support, PCI is part of a statewide network of family resource centers working to strengthen Colorado communities by investing in families.
